The best spots to view the fireworks in NYC this weekend

Another summer holiday has arrived and we're pulling out the red, white and blue in full force to celebrate Independence Day this weekend. Families all over the city are firing up the grills, hitting the beach and breaking out their picnic baskets for fourth of July gatherings. For those of us hanging out in the city this weekend we're stoked about the famous Macy's Fireworks Spectacular. This year's pyrotechnics show entitled "BRAVE" is the largest fireworks display in the nation.

So, with a show this big, it's only right that you get the perfect spot to view the entire experience. Here's our top 4 favorite spots to see the fireworks this July 4th.

SOUTH STREET SEAPORT

Although the seaport is not an official viewing location, it is one of our favorite spots to hangout on the fourth. The recent destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy, left the South Street Seaport devastated - BUT the area has quickly bounced back. The numerous shops and restaurants plus the live entertainment are sure to keep you busy while you wait for the fireworks to light up the night sky. Don't forget to stop by Smorgasburg, my favorite spot for food and drinks!

BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK

A designated special needs/ADA viewing location, this spot offers great views of the light display over the East River. Enjoy an entire day of fun in the park with the family. Take a spin on Jane's Carousel, view some public art or hit the courts for a quick game of HORSE. Then find a relaxing spot along Pier 1 for the perfect view of the show.

*Note: Activities and attractions close at 4 p.m. For additional information about security, entrances and rules check the official Brooklyn Bridge Park website.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS PROMENADE

This spectacular view of the Manhattan skyline is breathtaking. Add some high-end pyro to the mix and you've got yourself an amazing fourth of July experience. Escape from the busy park below for a romantic stroll through the Brooklyn Heights. Although the promenade is not an official Macy's viewing spot, it is sure to please as the fireworks pop and crackle above your head.

FDR DRIVE

Get lifted this holiday weekend on the elevated areas of the FDR Drive. These official viewing locations give you the best views of the light show. Arrive early, as this location is bound to get crowded fast. To make it easier and more enjoyable, take public transit to and from the event. Entry points include Old Slip Upper Level, Houston Street and Pearl & Frankfort. Macy's offers a full list of entry points on their website.

The Macy's 4th of July Fireworks show begins at approx. 9:20 p.m. and will last roughly 25-30 minutes. Celebrating outside of the city? You can also view other light shows including the Freedom & Fireworks Festival (Jersey City, NJ) and the Fireworks Spectacular at Jones Beach State Park (Long Island, NY).

Remember - NYPD will be checking bags and containers. Do yourself a favor and leave large containers, blankets, lawn chairs and other large items at home. NYPD may also close any public space/area at any time. Enjoy the show and have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day!
