Woombie Swaddle Review

Swaddling isn't a new concept; mothers have swaddled their babies for centuries in cultures all across the world. The way we swaddle an infant, however, has changed along with the times.

Swaddle-sacks and pouches in fun designs and fabrics have replaced the days of swaddling a baby with a blanket (although many parents still do), and now we have products that come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials.

So out of all the options, which one is the right one for you and your baby? To help you make the best choice, we have reviewed the Woombie is a swaddling sack for you to check out.

Woombie Swaddle Review

Woombie was created as a result of Karen Barski's struggles with her infant and attempting to swaddle it.

Made by a mom for other parents, this product was designed to make swaddling as easy as possible.

So, how effective is the Woombie swaddle sack? We looked at the benefits and drawbacks of using the swaddling sack so you can decide if it is worth the purchase. Take a look at our review.

Quick Review

The Woombie comes in a range of colors and designs. The basic notion of this sleep sack is that you zip up a tight piece of fabric around the infant and snap it on top to keep them from escaping.

The Woombie is very simple to use; no demonstration or instructions are required.

While a baby can't get their arms out, they can hold them over their bodies inside the Woombie which is regarded to be beneficial for self-comfort.

You can also unzip it from the bottom, allowing you to change your child's diaper in the middle of the night with minimal disruption and without having to remove the whole thing.

All around this is a great product and one of the better swaddles on the market that both babies and parents will love.

Sizes And Weight

The Woombie is available in four sizes. The first one is suitable for a "premie" which refers to a newborn who is born early (16-17 inches, 3-6lbs).

The newborn size is appropriate for babies three months and older (20-22 inches, 5-13lbs).

Big Baby is for babies that are three to six months old (24-26 inches, 14-19lbs). Mega is for six to nine-month-olds who haven't rolled over yet and want to sleep swaddled (27-29 inches, 20-25lbs).

The Woombie swaddle is available in two tog weights: 0.2 and 1.0, both of which are ideal for warmer climates. This is ideal if you live in warmer climates or you keep your home quite warm at night.

However, if you live in colder climates, your child was born in winter, or your home is quite cold, then this may not be the best option for you.

Swaddling

A single zip secures your baby's swaddle, assuming you have the right size.

Within the zipped swaddle, your kid will have some arm freedom, but there will be no chance or opportunity for them to wiggle out or escape, making it very safe for your baby to sleep in.

Putting on the swaddle, however, is not always as straightforward as it appears, and it will depend on whether or not your child squirms.

If they are quite an active child who moves around a lot, you could feel like you need an extra pair of hands to zip them up.

The baby cannot get their arms out of the Woombie once wrapped, but they can place them over their bodies inside. This position is said to be excellent for self-comfort and will help them sleep better at night.

The main Woobie product only allows for one swaddle position, that with both of the babies arms tucked in.

If you choose instead the Woobie Convertable then this gives you more options including swaddling with one arm out, both arms out, or both arms in.

Diaper Changes

Any parent knows that diaper changes don’t stop just because the baby is asleep. But disturbing your baby too much during these late-night changes can wake them up and then keep them awake for hours on end.

To prevent this from happening the Woobie has the excellent feature of a two-way zipper.

Found at the bottom of the swaddle, this lets you open up the bottom only and do a quick change without having to remove the whole thing. You and your baby will be back to sleep before you know it thanks to this.

Designs

While the design is not the most important factor when choosing a swaddle, it is still important to think about.

The Woobie comes in a whole load of crazy colors and designs, which is perfect if you want to add a pop of color to your baby’s wardrobe.

If you prefer neutral tones then there are fewer options, but you should still be able to find some that you like.

Pros And Cons

Pros

  • Snug but not too tight - like all good swaddles, the Woobie will keep your baby wrapped up tightly enough that they feel safe and secure, but also allows for some movement inside so that the baby does not feel trapped
  • Loads of sizes - many swaddles only have two sizes, while the Woobie has four
  • Easy to do diaper changes - thanks to the two-way zip, you can do a quick diaper change at night without waking the baby

Cons

  • May need to be removed for feeding - As the regular Woobie model wrapped up the babies arms, you may need to unwrap the waddle if your child likes to have their arms free when feeding
  • Only two weight options - with the weight options being either “medium” or “summer”, this product may not be suitable if you live in colder climates

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Swaddling?

Swaddling is where you wrap a blanket tightly (but not too tight) around your baby. It is done to keep them warm, comfort them, and protect them while sleeping.

What Are The Benefits Of Swaddling?

Swaddling has many benefits. It makes your baby feel calm due to the wrap mimicking the feeling of being in the womb, it can keep them warm without the need for blankets (which come with the risk of suffocation), and it can prevent the newborn reflex which can wake them up when they suddenly move their arms.

Takeaway

The Woobie is an excellent swaddle that we highly recommend to parents.

It will keep your baby warm and cozy at night, and help to calm them down so they are ready for a night of rest.

Thanks to the zips it makes putting it on quite easy and makes diaper changes very quick and simple.

And with so many designs and colors to choose from, you’re bound to find one that fits you and your baby’s style.
